It’s been a year of the tablets – big and small, slim and fat. Tablet makers have been rolling out slates for the professional, the traveler and the home user. As if they aren’t just enough, here comes a new device that aims at the kids. No kidding, the upcoming Vinci Tab is just for the toddlers around.

Built tough with foam handles and tempered glass, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread slate comes with a 7-inch 800×480 touchscreen display. Under the hood, it has a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor and 512 MB of RAM.
Further, the device also offers a collection of built-in apps and games for the kids. It has no 3G or Wi-Fi, and also comes with safety locks to keep improper content at bay.
The device is circumscribed by a red, easy grip handle made of soft material like silicone, which makes it tough and shock proof. The multi-touch LCD display is concealed by the tempered glass used in the car windows. The housing components meet safety standards from toy and food contacts.
Other features include a 3 megapixel rear camera that records 720p videos, along with a microphone and built-in speaker. It supports video formats like H.264, MPEG-4 etc and audio formats like MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible and WAV audio files.
Further, the device also comes with a micro USB port and 4GB/8 GB built-in memory which can be expanded using micro SD cards. Two types of lithium polymer batteries – while one is a 3200mAH offering 3 hours of battery life, the other is a 6400mAH offering 6 hours of battery life.
The Vinci Tab is expected to be unveiled on August 10th. The 8 GB/6400 mAh model will come for a price of $479, while the 4 GB/3200 mAh version version will sell for $389. Stay tuned for the roll out to give your kid a surprise.
