The new service of providing the electric vehicle charging station database on Google Maps can be seen as helpful for those who are running out of juice on the way. It lets drivers, especially the technologically-savvy ones, to locate charging stations if they stranded in unfamiliar places. All you have to do is to search Google Maps for “EVcharging station” along with the appropriate name of the place where you are searching for the station.

Well, this is not the first such initiative through which the Google is extending support to environmentally-friendly vehicles. The web giant is already associated with programs such as RechargeIT, which is an effort to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles among the general folk.

For the latest move, Google is being guided and helped by the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).The department has launched the GeoEVSE Forum to develop a detailed, accurate database of electric vehicle charging stations.

Automakers, electric vehicle charging station manufacturers or installers, EV consumer groups or others interested can join the GeoEVSE Forum here. Tell us if you are going for it.
