India clash with arch-rivals Pakistan in the virtual semi-final of the Asia Cup 2014 to be played in Dhaka on Sunday, March 2, 2014. The match starts at 1:00 p.m. Pakistan time.
The two-year waiting period will be over on Sunday as arch-rivals India and Pakistan battle it out in Match 6 of the Asia Cup 2014. The action will shift from Fatullah to Dhaka from Sunday onwards in the Asia Cup.
India-Pakistan Cricket matches are usually rare because of the political hostilities between the two nations. Sunday’s clash at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur will be the first match between India and Pakistan in two years! The last time they met was in the 2012 Asia Cup which was also the last ODI of Sachin Tendulkar.
That last encounter between these arch-rivals saw a violent knock of 183 from 148 balls from the present Indian Captain Virat Kohli. Pakistan courtesy of that epic knock lost despite putting up a total of 329. So it could be revenge time for Pakistan in 2014 and wouldn’t they love to see the back of Kohli early?
Pakistan have won the toss and will field. India will bat first.
The playing XIs:
India: Virat Kohli, Rayudu, Rahane, Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ashwin, Mishra, B Kumar and Mohammed Shami.
Pakistan: Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Sohaib Maqsood, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Talha, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan.
The Sunday match between India and Pakistan is a virtual semi-final. The winner of the match will almost seal the finalist spot while the loser is more than certain of getting knocked out.
So far, it is clear that Sri Lanka are already in the Finals having defeated India and Pakistan. A win against either Afghanistan or Bangladesh which is more than certain will confirm the inevitable.
The pitch at Mirpur is likely to aid the stroke players much better than what it was on the slow and low tracks at Fatullah. India have given signs that their erratic fast bowler Varun Aaron is going to play in the place of all-rounder Stuart Binny. Sunday’s game will be Ravindra Jadeja’s 100th ODI.
Pakistan are unlikely to make any changes to their team that defeated Aghanistan. Their batting will have to come good if they have to beat India. Follow the live scores on ESPNCricinfo here.
