We have new info that will be good news for those of you who are waiting to get your hands on the rumored Sony PlayStation handset. The controls of the device have appeared in the Android 2.3 software development kit. Google had released the Gingerbread SDK earlier. Shortly after the release, developers have noticed new code that appears to be related to the buttons on the Sony PlayStation controllers.

The new discovery has come after several leaked videos and images showing a PlayStation handset with a control layout similar to that of the PSP Go.

The new code includes notable references to L1, L2, R1 and R2, the four shoulder triggers found on the PlayStation controller. But there is no sign of the PlayStation’s signature Square, Triangle, X and Circle buttons. It seems that Google decided to dub the buttons with more generic labels.

Rumors suggest that one of the first PlayStation Phones will be the Sony Ericsson Z1, which is expected to sport a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and a 4-inch touchscreen.

The company may introduce the device sometime soon. So stay tuned to this space. But no clue about the release date though.

In the meantime, you can check out the Android Developers website here for taking a peek at the reference section.
