Tamil movie ‘Jilla’ review and box-office collections report

The Tamil movie “Jilla” starring Vijay, Mohanlal, Kajal Aggarwal and others was released in around 1000 screens in India and across the world on Jan 10, 2014.

Two of the most awaited Tamil films have hit the screens this Pongal season – Ajith’s “Veeram” and Vijay’s “Jilla”. And “Jilla” certainly tops the track with Mohanlal and Vijay appearing side by side on big screen. Interestingly, the marketing of both the films remain to be low key affairs.

A change of trend can be observed in Bollywood with celebrities forgoing their for publicity stunts when a film is set to be released.

And quite rightly, the box office has rewarded films like “Chennai Express”, “Krrish 3” and “Dhoom 3” for this with more than Rs 300 crore in the box office.


The advance booking of “Jilla” has got a fantastic response and according to reports, all tickets are sold out and the movie is house full throughout the weekend!

The 1st day and 2nd day’s box-office collections are expected to break some sort of records in the Tamil film industry. The collections stats will be updated here soon. Watch this space.

RB Choudary, veteran producer in Kollywood who also cashed “Jilla” says in Kollywood he finds the trend is reversing. If the heroes are in the front to promote a movie, it nevertheless takes some pain of the producer, but this does not happen.

And needless to say, Bollywood goes on to make more money than any other industry. Whereas sources suggest that Vijay is keeping his distance ever since his last flick “Thalaiva” was denied release in Tamil Nadu for simple reasons, which again caused huge dents in the producer’s pockets.


They also suggested that Vijay will only be a part of the success party of “Jilla”.
Despite the actors not being on the field, the fans clubs of both sides are certainly making a celebration of these movies.

Earlier minor clashes have been reported between Ajith and Vijay fans club whenever their movies released on the same date.


Can Vijay break his own record of “Thuffaki”? On the 1st, it had earned in Rs 9.25 crores and Rs 22.25 crores in its first weekend at the Tamil box-office.

There are mixed reviews from trade analysts and entertainments website.

Desimartini described the movie as a big bore! It wrote, “Jilla” is a joyless commercial potboiler that has no trace of that one thing it needed the most: mass”

“There’s not even a mild trace of humor. The film’s female lead character, played by Kajal Aggarwal, is quite easily one of the worst I have seen in years. She is subject to stalking, sexual harassment at workplace and mostly made a complete fool of.”
