Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, went into coma after he had a deadly fall while he was skiing in the French Alps.
Schumacher and his 14-year-old son were skiing in the Meribel resort where he fell and hit his head on a rock.
He is still said to be in a critical condition on Monday after undergoing brain surgery, doctors said.
The 44-year-old German was “suffering a serious brain trauma with coma on his arrival, which required an immediate neurosurgical operation”, the hospital in the southeastern French city of Grenoble said in a brief statement.
“He remains in a critical condition.”
Schumaker was airlifted to a local hospital, then later Grenoble facility.
Christophe Gernigon-Lecomte of the Meribel resort said after the accident that he was wearing a helmet and was “conscious but a little agitated”. But when Schumacher went into coma, it was known that the injury was worse than initially thought.
Schumacher’s wife Corinna and his two children are near him at the hospital.
According to the hospital sources, the next update on Schumacher’s condition will be provided at 10:00 GMT on Monday.
Many Sports personalities took to Twitter to offer their prayers.
Brazilian Formula One racing driver Felipe Massa tweeted, “I am praying for God to protect you my brother!! I wish you a speedy recovery Michael”.
Schumacher was on a private holiday along with his family in Meribel.
