Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by two wickets in the 5th and final ODI in a nail biting finish at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Dec. 27 2013.
Chasing 235 runs to win the match, the Sri Lankan batsman slumped to 195 runs for 8 wickets, needing 41 more runs to win. BAW Mendis and Chandimal scored 41 runs for the 9th wicket and ensured a consolation win for Sri Lanka.
The five ODI series was won by Pakistan 3-2. Now the Three Test series is next, the 1st Test will start from Dec 31, 2013 in Abu Dhabi.
Cricinfo described the match as,”It had been widely noted that Dinesh Chandimal hadn’t made an ODI fifty in nearly a year. He chose a thriller to end the drought, guiding Sri Lanka home in the last over, with the No. 10 Ajantha Mendis for company.”
“It had looked all but over for Sri Lanka when Pakistan nipped out three wickets in three overs, and 38 were needed off 27 balls. Saeed Ajmal, who took two of those three wickets.”

The Sri Lankan batsman then took nine off Junaid’s 47th over. In the last two overs they needed 18 runs, but the winning run came in the last over.
In the 50th over, Chandimal slogged Umar Gul’s first delivery for a six over deep midwicket. Mendis too stepped out and lofted Gul for another six over extra cover three balls later.
With two needed from the last three balls, Mendis hit the winning runs over extra cover.
