The Hindi movie “Satya” starring Sharvanand, Mahesh Thakur, Mrunal Jain and Anaika Soti was released in India and across the world on Nov. 8, 2013.
The movie was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and produced by M. Sumanth Kumar Reddy.
When “Satya” first hit theatres in 1998, it took Indian filmmaking and Indian cinemagoers with storm. It was hailed as a breath of fresh air by all, and neither critics nor audiences had anything bad to say about the film.
While the film represented a major change in the gangster films, the change it ushered in failed to sustain. Over the course of the next decade and a half, RGV has delivered a number of other productions most of which have failed dramatically on the box office.
However, that has not deterred Ram Gopal Varma from trying to make a grand comeback into mainstream cinema. Now, his fans would be hoping that “Satya 2″ does just that for the filmmaker.
Arun Sharma, one of the producers of the film and RGV apparently weren’t feeling the love around the film’s original scheduled release October 25. However, sources claim that the duo have since working well together to get the film released successfully over this coming weekend.
While the release of the film comes after much hyped productions like “Besharam” and “Krrish 3″, its makers claims that it shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent for filmgoers as “Satya” belongs to a very different genre.
A source claims that the film has been made with a budget of just INR15 Crore which means that anything upwards of INR30 Crore would be a magnificent performance for the film.
That being said, RGV insists that “Satya 2″ isn’t a sequel to the 1998 original but instead is a reinvention of the underworld to reflect modern times.
Due to bad word of mouth, the movie could earn only Rs 60 lakhs in its 1st day of release. A majority of the movies’ collections was from Delhi and UP where its earned Rs 10 lakhs and in Punjab its earned just 5 lakhs.
The rating have been poor for the movie. Times of India gave it 2 out of 5 stars while IMDB gave 5.5 out of 10.
