Nissan Motor Co unveiled its new compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) ‘Terrano’ in Indian on Tuesday.
Terrano is priced at less than Rs 10 lakh and the pre-bookings will start from September 1.
“The Terrano will play a key role in boosting Nissan’s sales volume in India and marks the company’s entry into the expanding compact SUV segment,” Nissan said in a statement.
“This segment grew 30 per cent in the last quarter. The Terrano will play a key role in boosting Nissan’s sales volume in India. If there is an opportunity, we are willing to export it, but this product is developed specifically for the Indian market.” It addded.
The Terrano is expected to give stiff competition to existing SUVs like Renault’s Duster and the Ford EcoSport which are doing well in the Indian market.
The Terrano sports SUV is designed to look differently to distinguish it from the Duster. At the front, the Terrano has new angular headlamps, grille and bumper.
The licence plate holder has been redesigned to look better. The rear bumpers have also been slightly restyled.
However, engine specifications remain the same as in the Duster, which is powered by the 1.5-litre dCi engine that is available in two states of tune.
“Terrano will be produced at Nissan’s Oragadam plant alongside the premium hatchback Micra, Sunny sedan and Evalia urban class utility vehicle, expanding Nissan’s locally-built model range to four,” Nissan India had said in a statement.
