‘Chennai Express’ total box-office collection report: Surpasses ‘Dabangg’, ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’ collections

Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, Rohit Shetty’s “Chennai Express” continues to break records at the box-office.

Its 7th day, August 15th box-office collection is again said to be Rs 17.56 crores, taking its total collections to well over the 200 crore mark including overseas collections.

The movie surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark in just three day’s breaking Salman Khan’s “Ek Tha Tiger” record of crossing 100 cr in six days.

It also broke the record for earnings at the box-office for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd day collections including the paid reviews. Below is the chart with the day wise collections of “Chennai Express” till date.

The movie’s worldwide collections crossed Rs 210 crore plus in 7 days which is again a new record.

The worldwide collection was 270 cr plus gross in 7 days another record.

Hereby the movie surpassed the total lifetime domestic collection of Salman Khan’s “Dabangg”, “Bodyguard” and Akshay Kumar’s “Rowdy Rathore” and has becoming the 5th highest grosser ever at domestic box-office in India.

Chennai Express also broke records in terms of the numbers of theatres and multiplexes it was released. It was released in 2550 cinemas and in 3,550 screens in India and 700 screens internationally which includes 195 screens in the United States, 175 in the United Kingdom, 55 screens in the Middle East and 30 screens in Australia, making it the widest Bollywood release of all time.

The tickets of the movie were hiked by 30-40% depending on the location and city. Anand Vishal, Head of Operations, Fun Cinemas said, “The jump in weekday ticket prices is largely due to the fact that currently they are sold at a lower price.

“Eid has been traditionally good for business and during the Eid week, we expect to sell more tickets than we do in a full month otherwise.

“A Shah Rukh Khan film is coming after nine months and history shows that Rohit Shetty’s films have not gone wrong at the box office.”
