Facebook has helped so many people by reminding their friends’ birthdays and so it is our moral obligation that we too should wish Facebook on its birthday. So here goes: Happy Birthday, Facebook and may you live long and prosper.
On this auspicious occasion, let us remember how it all started. Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the three other co-founders Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes were students at Harvard and it all began from their hostel room.
As you all know the story, let’s check out some statistics that will make us understand what this 9 year old website is really made of. As of last September, Facebook has over one billion active users, and among them more than half of them use Facebook on a mobile device.
There are an average of 618 million daily active users in Facebook and the information transaction accounts to about 30 billion pieces. While the United States has the most users per nation (165 million), about 70 percent of all users are outside the U.S.
Being so powerful and popular, Facebook did had some terrible moments too. Studies have revealed that Facebook can create a lot of troubles such as addiction, narcissism, aiding terrorism by perpetuating illicit ideas and so on.
But whatever that might all be, I have a Facebook account, you have a Facebook account and we do use it to be closer to people than we really can be in our day-to-day lives. What say?
